Los Angeles at the turn of the 20th century lacked a social safety net for older adults. Deaconess Sophie Miller began collecting dimes, one by one, on cards distributed all over Los Angeles. Her goal of providing housing and services for seniors was realized in 1923, when The Episcopal Home for the Aged opened in Alhambra.
Today, with Sophie Miller’s mission guiding our work at the Foundation, Episcopal Communities & Services (ECS) has become a leading provider of senior housing and services in Southern California.
We are grateful to all who share their resources to help promote our mission.
